Don't Give Up Too Soon!

Writer: Pastor Myron K. LeachPastor Myron K. Leach

Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV)

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

I am a sports enthusiast at heart and love most sports. I have made several observations about the 2016 Summer Olympics. I noticed a reoccurring theme about many competitions this year. Many competitors get out to an early lead during track and field events and began to slow down as they approached the finish line. In my head the finish line is the end of the race and not 5-10 feet before the line.

It has been frustrating for me as a fan because my vantage point allows me to see other competitors gaining on those who I am rooting for and I have actually observed a few runners lose out because they gave up too soon before crossing the finish line.

Wherever you are in life, be careful not to give up your dreams and aspirations. What is in your heart? Have you allowed disappointments to stop your progress? Many times, we are at the brink of our breakthrough but because it is uncomfortable we give up. We give up because of the pressure and check out and God and don’t operate in faith. We should make observations at every juncture and use everything to our advantage to win!

There are times in a race that the competitors will allow each other to pass as a strategic move. Just because someone seems to be ahead of you does not mean you are destined to lose or at a disadvantage. They are simply running their race.

I encourage you to make strategic moves towards your destiny and where God wants to take you in you walk with Him. There will be peaks and there will be valleys but don’t stay in those places or you may run the risk of becoming lost and not making progress.

God want us to run our race while persevering through the difficult seasons of life. He wants us to learn more about Him and for us to be self-aware. We must know when to slow down and when to gain momentum.

Allow your momentum to be the catalyst to propel you towards the finish line and don’t give up too soon because of what you perceive as a sure thing. Go all the way to the end!
